Converting a starter pistol to a real gun?

i own a few handguns already but some of the starter pistols i have seen onlne are soo much cheaper and look really nice. i want a gun just to around with at my hunting camp without risking some of my more expensive/powerful guns....and i like the revolver style .22 guns better for when im in the woods....the semi auto just seems too civilized. how hard would it be to convert a starter pistol to fire live rounds. i am an auto mechanic so im pretty good with my hands and power tools. im not concerned with legality because i live in a rural area and i only see the police about 3 times a year. thx for the replys
