How do I add a song on micro sd card to cell phone?

Okay so I bought a micro SD card with its adapter. I managed to download a song to the card in order to put in on my cell phone, but what I am having difficulty with is once I place the card into the cell phone how do i save it as one of my ring tones? I have an LG Imprint from Metro PCS.
