What is the difference between an residence card (i-551) and an employment authorization card?

I got a letter from my college say I need to send proof of my Alien Registration Receipt Card (i-551) but what I have is an Employment Authorization Card. What is the difference between these two? And is the Employment Authorization Card the one I'm supposed to send? HELP!! PLEASE && THANK YOU!
