I think I fancy my best friend?

Im a girl, my best friend is a boy. We are really close, and hes never been friends like this with a girl b4, he hides his feelings constantly. Well, I have always fancied him. I think hes gorjus, we flirt all the time, and he doesnt with anybody else, and every1 tells me he fancies me and that we make the perfect couple. But I get mixed messages from him, he lets me hug him [which he wud NEVA let any1 else do, but because he never shows any emotion, when I get close to him, he doesnt seem to make any movement. Which confuses me, but sometimes he tells me to hug him. I care about him deeply and he gets bullied because hes a HUGE fan of star trek. But Im always there goin crazy at them 4 pickin on him, he also got rid ov sum1 that was harasing me by telling him that I didn't want him there, and when my ex dumpt me, he was really protective and argued with him tonnes. I know he wouldnt do that for another girl, if I show affection, he goes a bit strange on me, I dont know what to do.
