Catholics, about ligation and vasectomy?

I am an ex-Catholic. my fiance is a non-Catholic and he had a vasectomy years before he met me. he asked me if he's doomed to hell for having a vasectomy according to the Catholic Church's teachings, and I couldn't answer him because I absolutely have no idea. besides, even when I was a Catholic I didn't really know the answer to that question. so, anyway, as a Catholic, what would your answer be if you're asked that question?
